Doctors define 4 migraine stages. They always take place, but most migraineurs are not consciously aware of all the 4 migraine stages. They recognize migraine only when the headache sets in. However, all the stages are obvious the case of migraine with aura which is typical only for 20% of all migraine patients.
First stage of migraine: Prodrome
This stage begins 1-2 days before the migraine attack. The symptoms of this stage are may differ for different patients. Some are hyperactive and full of energy and happiness, without an apparent reason. Some people feel weak and and irritable. Second stage of migraine: Aura
Migraine with aura is called classic migrain. Aura begins 15-60 min prior to the headache. Most patients (80%) are not aware of this stage and skip it. At aura stage the vision alters, flashing lights, blind spots, zigzag flashing lines at the edges of your vision area. Additionally, people can experience tingling in limbs, speech problems, weakness or dizziness.

Third stage of migraine: Headache
The aura is gone, the headache starts and lasts from 4 to 72 hours. The pulsing pain is usually located one one side of the head, in the area around the eye. It is often accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light, smells and sound. Vomiting relieves the pain.
Forth stage of migraine: Postdrome
The pain is gone, weakness and fatigue come instead. Head, neck, and stomach are very sensitive during the postdrome.
